Hello!
My name’s Emma (18) and I’m taking part in the Being Grateful experiment. The idea is to spend a few minutes every day for a week to think about what you’re grateful for and see the difference that can make. This is the third post of a short series on what being grateful means to me. So here goes!
Sunday
I am grateful for the chance to say goodbye
It’s not easy to find something to be thankful for at a funeral but after all it’s the chance to say goodbye, a chance that not everybody gets. I knew my Grandpa for 18 years and have many happy memories of him trying to teach me to play chess, taking me to museums and endless crossword puzzles. I said my goodbye and now it is time to move forward once again, I may not believe in heaven but I know that he did and I hope that if there is anyone out there and they’re taking care of him.
I am grateful for my family
On a such a sad day I was glad to find that afterward the funeral that people were talking and laughing. I talked with many family members I barely see and some I’d never even met! We talked about our future and how we do our best, not only for ourselves but for our Grandfather. I’m grateful that through it all we still had a laugh, even if it was through tears.
I am grateful for my bed
After an incredibly long day and a long journey home I wanted nothing more than my bed. To be able sit in my own room, with my own posters on the walls, my own pillows beneath my head and my plushie Toothless at my side was all I needed. It felt like the best end to a hard day, to be back where I belonged.
